Current News
Check here for current news relating to Exchange, Windows NT, Security and Hawaii /
Pacific Rim computer events.
- My site is still in major disarray due to a failed disk and missing backups. I am
putting it back together slowly, but I am working on a new book (Data Cabling for Network
Administrators) and have very limited time for the Web site right now.
- Microsoft has announced Windows NT 4.0 Exam retirements and Windows 2000 MCSE exams!
- Exchange 5.5 Service Pack 3 is available from Microsoft. It may be downloaded at http://www.microsoft.com/exchange.
Read the "Read Me" file thoroughly before deploying this service pack.
Reviews are currently mixed about the effectiveness of this SP. For more
information, click here.
- Lots of new things coming down the road! Microsoft SQL Server 7.0
is incredible! Systems Management Server 2.0 is also winning praise for
the early adopters. CTA is already offering classes on these two great
products. Bill Stiles and I have spent several weeks at Microsoft over the
last 6 months getting ready to teach the first Windows 2000 classes. Believe me
when I say, Windows 2000 is going to rock your world. Stay tuned to CTA's
web site (www.cta.net) for more information on Windows 2000, SQL 7.0 and
SMS 2.0.
- By now, everyone has probably heard of the Outlook Worm.ExplorerZip
virus. In case you have not, here is a link that will help you get a
better understanding of what this virus does.

Since the
Melissa virus first came out, I have changed my opinion of Exchange Server
based virus protection. I now believe it is essential for any Exchange
Server that is running connectors (such as the Internet Mail Service) to
the outside world. What I have seen of Norton's NAV for Exchange seems to be
very good.
