Not too technical, but good reading
Don't spend all your time in the computer room. You will become boring and that is much
worse than being technically un-informed! *grin*
The Cuckoo's Egg : Tracking a Spy Through the Maze of Computer Espionage by Clifford Stoll
One of my all time favorite books. While not directly related to computers, it is the
tale of an UC Berkeley astronomer turned Unix system administrator that tracks a hacker across computers in
the US and Europe. This is one of those books that you have to plan to read
front to back. I read it in practically one sitting. |
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
What can I say? Read it and judge for yourself. A lot of people say this book changed
their life. Others say that it is complete horse hooey. Rand is credited with originating the objectivist thought
movement and the Libertarian movement. Alan Greenspan was one of her protégé's. Whether you agree
with the story line or not, it is a well crafted and interesting novel. If you enjoy this novel, you should
also read
The Fountainhead |
Frequent Flyer : One Plane, One Passenger, and the Spectacular Feat of Commercial Flight by Bob Reiss.
Bob Reiss walked in to a Delta hanger in Atlanta and randomly picked on of their L-1011 TriStar aircraft.
He spent three days with the plane, it's passengers and crew; he went everywhere the plane went
and he wrote about the plane, Delta, the crew and his experiences. I know, it sounds like a
real sleeper, but I could not put it down. If you fly a lot, you should read this book.

The Discovery of Freedom by Rose Wilder Lane.
Originally published in 1943 it was written by Rose Wilder Lane, whose mother was Laura
Ingalls Wilder (Little House on the Prairie). Anyone interested in our "heritage" of freedom
must read this book. She was a visionary of freedom and what it means; she has been compared
with Thomas Jefferson (my personal hero). |
